By Bob Mowle - Posted on 02 January 2012

Hi Everyone,

Philippines – Tropical Storm

Flash floods triggered by Tropical Storm Washi which dumped more than a month of average rain in just 12 hours over  Mindanao . This coincided with high tides, trapping many in their homes. The major ports of Cagayan de Oro and Iligan were among the areas worst hit on Friday night. Almost 35,000 people were still sheltering in evacuation centres on Sunday, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council report. The Philippine National Red Cross puts the current death toll at 652 with 808 people reported missing.LifeStraw – Need your Help  District Governor Mike Parry (1150) and IPDG Donna Wallbank of the Rotary Club of Brynmawr which is heavily involved in the provision of LifeStraws have offered to supply LifeStraws to those affected by Tropical Storm Washi. However they need your help to raise funds to transport the LifeStraws to the  Philippines

LifeStraw Personal is a portable water purifier for prevention of common diarrhoeal disease. It can be carried around for easy access to safe and clean drinking water. It is just 25 cm long and 29 mm in diameter and can be hung around the neck. LifeStraw requires no electrical power or spare parts and provide instant microbiological purifier that allows people to create their own homemade drinking water. It gives them access to safe and clean drinking water, by allowing them to have a stable and reliable source of water for personal consumption. This will filter up to 1,000 litres of water.  If you can help with funds please contact Mike, Donna or Gareth Rees.DG Mike, PDG Donna and DISC Gareth   Kind regards,  DrewDrew HughesInternational Resource Group ChairmanRotary International  Great Britain  &  Ireland
