Rotary District Chief visits Solihull Club

Rotary District Chief visits Solihull Club Diana Holl-Allen, newly elected President of Solihull Rotary Club, had the opportunity this week to welcome District (1060) Governor, Rtn Peter Roberts to Solihull.  On his visit he was able to see,  at first hand, the work the thriving Solihull club do for the community.   Rotary International is a worldwide movement of more than a million men and women welcoming new members of all ages and backgrounds.A notable achievement has been its major contribution towards eliminating polio, the lethal, paralysing disease that gave some of us nightmares when we were young.  In the photo, President Diana Holl-Allen MBE is holding the purple polio bear that Peter is taking everywhere with him to use for fund-raising, supporting the polio eradication campaign which has been rated the 5th most effective charity in the world. Every £ raised is matched by The Bill Gates Foundation. Rotary’s motto is “Service before Self” and the Solihull Club illustrates this with a number of important projects locally, some of them being Sports for the Disabled;   the popular Solihull Competitive Music Festival,  which gives music students the opportunity to compete and display their talents, and Your Green Future, where hundreds of young people from local schools take part in workshops giving them the chance to look at what business is like today, even playing as judges in a local version of Dragon’s Den.
