Secretaries Newsletter for February 2012

By Webmaster - Posted on 16 February 2012

The nomination forms for Committee Membership for 2012/13 have been sent to all Secretaries. Return date for completed forms is 1st March. Existing Committee members who wish to continue must complete a new nomination form.

Last reminder that the third District Council Meeting for 2011/12 is scheduled for Wednesday 14th March at the Arden School, Knowle at the usual time of 6.30 for 7.00. This is the meeting when the budget will be agreed for 2012/13 so it is important and relevant to all Rotarians.

The District Secretary of 1180 has given me details of a final year student at Birmingham University who is willing to come and visit Clubs and talk about her experiences. She spent time last year on field studies in Equador and this year she will be doing similar work in Papua New Guinea. Her name is Liz Hardman and her e mail is eahardman@gmail.com. Liz is the daughter of a PDG in 1180 so is well versed in Rotary.

A reminder that there is an opportunity to meet the RI & RIBI Presidents (Sakuji Tanaka & John Minhinik) on 31st March at the RIBI assembly. It is open to all Rotarians and is FREE. The on line registration page is available on the RIBI web site under “Events” and then “Key events” in left hand menu.

As a District we do not hold details of which Clubs have twinning contacts with Clubs in other Countries. If you could let me know if your Club has an twinning type contact with a Club(s) abroad then I will keep the information centrally for the occasions when it might be useful.

If you have not already done so it is time to update the RI data base with details of your Officers for 2012/13. March 1st is the deadline for inputting the details to ensure it gets into RI directory. John Parkinson, Asst. District Secretary, will offer help if needed.

You may know that the District Shop is the responsibility of the Stourbridge Club and in particular Michael Pettigrew. Most of his contact details are in the Directory but not his phone number which is 01384 831039. Please amend your Directory accordingly.

RI have recently announced the death of Past RI President 2004/5 Glen Estess. He held many senior offices in RI and in 2010 finished his second spell as a Foundation Trustee. He leaves a wife, 3 children and grandchildren.

The Secretary at Coventry Phoenix, Philip Head, has had to stand down and is replaced by Keith Redhead.

The speaker at The Meriden Club’s President’s night on 15th May will be Terry Waite who is patron of the Club’s chosen charity this year – Emauus (A Charity helping the homeless). It will be held at the Manor Hotel, Meriden at 6.45 for 7.30. The cost is £20 per ticket. If you are interested in attending contact Sec. Roger Swindells or President Len Cardwell by 27th April. Contact details are in Directory.

If your Club are interested in the Rotary Youth Leadership Awards (RYLA) have a look at youthweek.co.uk for this year’s details and contact information. The programme will take place at Warwickshire College at Moreton Morrell nr. Stratford on Avon.

Please continue to let me have any changes in Membership numbers, gains or losses, so that the statistical information can be kept up to date. Information is welcome by e mail, letter or via the web site link.
