Young Chef Competition

148 Young ChefRotary International in Great Britain & Ireland believes it is highly important to encourage and develop creativity in young people, and this includes creativity in the kitchen. Amongst young people cooking is a growing interest and a valuable life skill. Schools seem to agree and hence the RIBI Young Chef competition, in association with leading olive oil company, Filippo Berio, moves forward from strength to strength each year producing some superb quality cooking from our young people aged from 11 to 17.

Thousands of youngsters from all over Great Britain and Ireland entered the 2013 competition and were shortlisted down to eight after competing in local and regional competitions. The contestants prepared and presented their three course meals for judging by an expert panel which included Christopher Baston, National Chairman of the Craft Guild of Chefs, David Kelman, Executive Chef at the Ellenborough Park Hotel, Stuart McLeod, Director of Zuidam UK Ltd, and Isabelle Chavez, winner of the 2012 competition.

Young Chef 2013 WinnerThe 2013 winner was 14 year old Jordon Powell, sponsored by the Rotary Club of Horsham, who enjoyed a trip to Tuscany, courtesy of generous sponsors Filippo Berio, and also received a cash prize and a cookery experience at a top hotel.
