Are you ready to get yourself heard with the RIBI Youth Speaks competition?

The Rotary Youth Speaks Competition is well established and successful within our District 1060 and within RIBI.

This competition aims to offer young people

  • an experience in speaking on a public platform as a member of a team 
  • an incentive to formulate ideas on topical subjects 
  • the discipline in dealing with a topic in a limited time 
  • the opportunity of learning and practising high standards of expression, presentation and appearance 
  • the impartial feedback and assessment of performance by experienced adjudicators

The competition is open to teams of three students, in full time education, in two age groups on 31 August 2014 : 

  • Intermediate 11 to 13 years 
  • Senior 14 to 17 years 

With the age qualifying date of 31st August 2014, it should be noted that some junior entrants may be 11, intermediate entrants may be 14 and some senior entrants may be 18 at the time of some or all the stage competitions i.e. a competitor may be 17 on 31st August but turns 18 on 1st September is allowed to enter.

Students must enter the competition, organised by the local Rotary Club, through their school, college or organisation. 

A Team of three young people, within the age ranges defined above select a subject they wish to present to an audience as part of a competition. They progress from Club level, through District, Regional and then RIBI National Finals.

The Team comprises:

  • Chairperson: controls the presentation and introduces (2 mins) the team and the subject.
  • Speaker: presents (6 mins) the subject and answers a question from the floor.
  • Proposer of the Vote of Thanks: summarises (2 mins) the subject and thanks the Speaker.

It is usual to present certificates to all team members and those obtaining winning places.

2014/15 Competition

Club Rounds take place at any convenient time between October and February

District Final is planned for Saturday 7th March 2015 (In the event of a large number of entries District heats may take place)

Regional Final will be in late March or early April

RIBI Final will take place on 10th May 2015 at Brentwood School, Brentwood, Essex
