BOMBER COMMAND - STUART GREEN

On Tuesday 25th April 2017, President John Green welcomed to the Club, Stuart Green, who had come to give a talk about his father, William Green.  William had survived 22 missions over Europe as a navigator in the Second World War before his plane crashed.  He then had been taken prisoner of war.

THE BRITISH RED CROSS - RACHEL WEAVER

On Tuesday 11th April 2017, President John Green welcomed to Coventry North Rotary Club, Rachel Weaver who promotes the values of the British Red Cross and gave a very interesting talk about the charity. It was first begun by a Swiss businessman, Henry Dunant in 1863 and has developed in to the incredible world wide organisation of today. Rachel gave an illustrated talk which was well received and created many questions from the Rotarians.  Past President Roger Woodward gave the vote of thanks.

THE FAMILY FUND TRUST - HOLLY NAM

On Tuesday 28th March 2017, Holly Nam, a vivacious young lady came to Coventry North Rotary Club to tell us about The Family Fund which helps disabled children with ages from birth to 17 years. Our Ladies were also invited join us for lunch and the talk. The charity is designed to help families raising disabled or seriously ill children across the UK.

On Tuesday 21st March 2017, Coventry North welcomed Rotarian Susanne Rea from Australia, District Governor Peter Roberts, District Governor Nominee Gary Dancer and many Rotarians from other neighbouring clubs were also present.

NEPAL WELFARE TRUST - DGN GARY DANCER

On Tuesday 14th March 2017, Rotarian Gary Dancer, District Governor Nominee visited Coventry North Rotary Club and gave an illustrated talk to members regarding Nepal. We had made a donation to the disaster fund on a previous occasion and Gary wished to tell us how the money had been spent on a new school. This was called the Shree Janapemi school in a remote part of Nepal.

On Tuesday 28th February 2017, Coventry North Rotary Club was very pleased to welcome Ann Pargetter, wife of Rotarian Andrew, with ‘’Archie’, a beautiful, well mannered springer spaniel. Archie is known as a PAT Dog (Pets As Therapy), and has  been chosen by Crufts as the representative in that class for the past three years. What an honour!

CAFOD - KRIS PEARS

On Tuesday 21st February 2017,  our President had the pleasure of welcoming to Coventry North Rotary Club, Kris Pears from CAFOD.  This was described as the Catholic version of OXFAM.  The charity started over forty years ago and has expanded to cover three continents during the years, giving aid and assistance to millio

COMMUNITY BROADCASTING SERVICE - NIGEL HEWIN

On Tuesday 14th February 2017, Nigel Hewin from the Community Broadcasting Service was welcomed to Coventry North Rotary Club by President John Green.  After lunch, Nigel gave a very interesting talk about the local Talking Newspaper and Features, how it originated and the community which it serves.  Many questions were asked by members and the vote of thanks on behalf of the club was given by Rotarian Brian Sharp. President John gave a cheque to Nigel and wished him and the charity every success in the future.

CORPORATE MEMBERSHIP - RTN. DIANE MILLER

On Tuesday 31st January 2017,  Rotarian Diane Miller from the Kenilworth Club was introduced to the Coventry North Rotary Club by our President John Green.  Diane, after the meal, gave a talk to the Club about Corporate Membership which caused quite a bit of interest.  She explained  that they had been trying the scheme for six months with a degree of success, by holding a meeting on the third Thursday of the month. There was no meal and no apologies so therefore is less informal. Many questions were asked by members.

THE RIGHTS OF INDIGENOUS PEOPLE IN INDIA AND BANGLADESH - OLIVER SCANLAN

On Tuesday 24th January 2017, President John Green welcomed to Coventry North Rotary Club, Oliver Scanlan. who has been studying in India and Bangladesh, the problems of the people and the region.  He gave an illustrated in depth talk to four guest Coventry Jubilee Rotarians, nine club Ladies and the Club members.  The internal politics of the countries was described as being very complicated and coping with the millions of people who had died since independence was sobering.

CHRISTMAS MESSAGE - REV DAVID MAYHEW

President John Green was pleased on Tuesday 20th December 2016 to welcome to Coventry North Rotary Club, Rev. David Mayhew.  It was a mild day for the winter solstice when our Rotary Club also welcomed three other Presidents of Coventry Clubs, and our ladies and friends.  With all our visitors it totalled 39 people altogether.  Rev. David gave the Grace then after a four course meal, delivered the Christmas Message which was well received.  Past President Bob Preston gave the vote of thanks on behalf of the Club.

CELEBRITY PORTRAIT SCULPTURES - MICHAEL BLUNDELL

On Tuesday 13th December 2016, Michael Blundell visited Coventry North Rotary Club.  He was welcomed by President John Green and delivered an illustrated talk on Celebrity Portrait Sculptures. Mike had been for many years a sculptor, designer and teacher, instructing students in the skills of modelling, portraiture and the use of associated materials. A very interesting talk was delivered and questions asked.

THE RIVER SHERBOURNE - COLIN WALKER

On Tuesday 29th November 2016, Colin Walker was welcomed to Coventry North Rotary Club by President John Green.  Colin gave a wonderfully illustrated talk about the River Sherbourne as it flows through the City of Coventry.  The talk lasted over 45 minutes which was packed full of information that the audience was able to relate to.  The river only covers 8 miles in length and yet is full of interesting facts that many in the audience were not aware of.

A MOMENT OF MAGIC - PETER POCELLI

President John Green welcomed to Coventry North Rotary Club, our Ladies, four members of Bedworth Rotary Club with guests of President John.  Thirty two people sat down for lunch on Tuesday 21st November 2016, and we were amazed after the meal by Peter Pocelli, a magical entertainer, for 45 minutes. How he made cards, etc. appear and disappear, we will never know. 

Past President Magan Patel gave a vote of thanks which was endorsed by the audience.

DEMENTIA TOPICS - DGN GARY DANCER

On Tuesday 15th November 2016, Gary Dancer, District Governor Nominee, visited Coventry North Rotary Club and was welcomed by President John Green. He first set us a quiz with ten questions being asked in fairly quick time and not repeating them. Some of us struggled in thinking of the answers in the limited time. Gary then told us the title of the talk was Dementia and this was a way of finding out if we were likely to be suffering from the disease.  He gave a very interesting and topical talk on the subject raising many questions from the members.

TRINIDAD AND TOBAGO AND ME! - MARVIN MCKENZIE

On Tuesday 11th. October 2016 President John Green had the pleasure of welcoming to the Club, Marvin McKenzie from Trinidad and Tobago, who is a student at Warwick University. Kenilworth and our Club are sponsoring him to help him with his studies for an Economics degree. Marvin gave a very interesting talk about Trinidad, Tobago and his life in the Caribbean.

ROTARY GUATEMALA LITERACY PROJECT

On Tuesday 9th August 2016, President John Green had the pleasure of welcoming President Chris Parker with the Bedworth Rotary Club for their annual visit. Ten members of their Club attended.   Additionally were Rotarians John Stanton from Kenilworth, David Clayfield and John Parkinson from the Arbury Rotary Club, who gave a talk  about the Guatemala Literacy Project, all of whom having  been involved.

TNT - THE NEWS TEAM - NORMAN BARTLAM

On Tuesday 27th September 2016, President John Green welcomed to the Club, Norman Bartlam from ‘TNT - The News Team’, and the Lady Friends of the Club. Norman gave a talk about the news programmes that had been produced by local groups for the last 20 years and transmitted to cover Birmingham and the ‘Black Country.  After the illustrated talk, questions were asked and Past President Peter Thompson gave the vote of thanks on behalf of the Club.  A cheque was presented to Norman with every good wish for the future.

KIDZ KLUB - SARAH ADAMSON

On Tuesday 13th September 2016, President John Green was pleased to welcome to Coventry North Rotary Club, Sarah Adamson from the KidsKlub Charity, which has five clubs situated around the City.  This is a Christian organisation which supports young people basically between 6  and 12 years of age with help and guidance.  The children come from problem homes and the leaders have had a great success with them and their families.  Sarah gave a very informative talk which led to many questions being asked.
