Coventry North



On Tuesday 31st March 2015, Coventry North was pleased to welcome Lucia Leon from a charity, KAIROS WWWT, ‘Women Working Together’ which is based at St. Peter’s Centre, Howard Street, Coventry. It was especially pleasing to welcome eight of our wives, partners and widows of past members. After lunch, we had a very interesting talk from Lucia about Kairos which believes in the value and dignity of all women. Following questions, a cheque was presented to her with the good wishes of all persons present. Photographs were taken by Brian Sharp.

On Tuesday 24th. March 2015, Coventry North was pleased to welcome six members from Bedworth Rotary Club who were on a “scatter” day. We were also joined by Rotarian Robert Mowle from Tamworth Anker Club, who is the District International Chairman. After lunch, he gave a very interesting illustrated talk on Sand Dams which were being built in Swaziland and other parts of Africa, enabling the population to gain access to clean water more easily.



On Tuesday 17th March 2015, Rotarian Leanne Beverley, from Coventry Jubilee Rotary Club, visited our Club and gave an illustrated talk on her forthcoming cycle ride across part of India in aid of “End Polio Now”. Six Days, 260 miles in 30c of heat! She was very well received, with many questions, and given the best wishes of the Club for a successful trip. A cheque was given towards her needs. On Tuesday 10th March 2015, Rotarian Bert Flannery visited Coventry North and joined us for lunch. This was followed by a talk by Bert outlining religious education in the schools, which gave food for thought amongst the members. John Green gave a very good vote of thanks. President Peter handed over a cheque.



On Tuesday 24th February 2015, Albert Sutton, Chairman of Troop Aid, paid a visit to Club and gave an enlightening talk regarding Troop Aid of which he was one the founder members, nine years ago. The charity has the Queen's Award for Voluntary Service with the Prince of Wales as a Patron. A very small amount is taken out for expenses. Injured troops arriving back in this country are provided with mobile phones, fleeces, tracksuit bottoms, hoodies, waterproof jackets trainers and slippers. The personnel are also assisted in many different other ways.



On Tuesday 17th February, Chris Goodman from King's Hill Nursery visited the Club and gave a talk regarding the Nursery and how it helps people with learning difficulties cope with modern day problems. They have approximately 15 visitors requiring guidance at a time with an average of three staff to assist them.
After questions and answers, Chris was thanked for an interesting talk with good wishes for the future.



On Tuesday 10th February 2015, Barbara Cowling visited Coventry North Rotary Club and gave a talk regarding Coventry Recycling Of Waste (CROW), which is now based in Sparkbrook Street, Coventry. Following an enjoyable lunch, many questions were asked and the meeting finished at 2pm Photographs were taken to mark the day. The Club presented Barbara with a cheque for the charity, with best wishes for every success in the future.



On Tuesday 20th January, Andrew Ireland of the Friends of Brandon Wood came to Coventry North Rotary Club and gave an illustrated talk regarding Brandon Wood and its maintenance. Several members have visited this beautiful area and asked many questions. Later a cheque was presented to Andrew for the “Friends of Brandon Wood” with good wishes for success in the future.



On Tuesday 13th January 2015, Jo Payne with a colleague visited the Coventry North Rotary Club and gave a talk regarding the Air Ambulance Service, which was well received. Many questions were asked and the meeting finished with Jo receiving a cheque from the Club for the charity.

On Tuesday 16th December 2014, The Rev. Canon John Eardley came to Coventry North Rotary Club and gave a Christmas Message which was very well received. The Club gave a donation to the Church of England Children's Society. Christmas and New Year Greetings were exchanged.

On Tuesday 9th December 2014, Richard Greenway came to the Club and gave a talk about the Coventry Community Responder's work. We had an enjoyable lunch (as can be seen in the photograph). He was given a cheque for his charity by President Peter and wished every success with his future plans to become a doctor.

On 29th July 2014, John Clark gave a talk to Coventry North Rotary Club and guests, including  Inner Wheel members, about the Night Shelters at seven different churches in the City.

Accommodation was offered with a supper and a light breakfast for up to 20 homeless people each night, from January to March.

District Governor's Visit

On 15th. July 2014 Coventry North Rotary Club was pleased to welcome District Governor John Crawford and Assistant Governor Tony Ridge to their meeting. Coventry North Rotarians celebrate 50 years of support for local and international causes.

Rotarians presented with long-service awards

Coventry North Rotary Club has rounded off its 50th anniversary celebratory year by honouring an impressive long service record by sixteen of its members.

They were presented with awards during a black tie dinner in the Manor Hotel, Meriden on Saturday, 16 April. The event was attended by the Deputy Lord Mayor of Coventry, Cllr Kieran Mulhall and the Assistant Governor for Coventry and Rugby district, Alan James who presented the club with its 50 year certificate.
