Rotary challenges world’s governments to target polio

Ahead of the UN General Assembly, Rotary International holds a strategy session with members from around the world including Pakistan and Nigeria

EVANSTON, Ill. (Aug. 15, 2012) — Rotary International aims to send a clear message to the United Nations (UN) General Assembly convening in September in New York: The world’s governments must act swiftly and decisively if the crippling childhood disease polio is to finally be eradicated.

We are involved in a project that is called Free@last in Nechells to turn a garage into a youth centre which needs to open by September. Most of the safety work has been completed along with new toilets and kitchen area. But the walls are bare brick. Rotary has funded the refurbishment so far. The project is coming along except the inside of the building has to be painted (see picture). We only have a matter of weeks to complete and can not afford the labour costs to get the job done. So if you can spare a few hours or have any contacts in the decorating field that may spare a man or two it would be very much appreciated.

Much Work Needed to Create a Youth Centre

The venue is open from 9 to 5 each day.

Voluntary Helpers

Many of our prospective members wish to help their community but don't want to go as far as joining Rotary.  They just want to volunteer for events.  This project enables a District register of volunteer opportunities.

Clubs are encouraged to add their own opportunities.  Each entry will automatically have a sign-up form attached.  For more details contact the webmaster.

Planning on Lisbon?

The 104th Rotary International Convention is in Lisbon from 23 to 26 June 2013.
