Fresh Water for Kititi in Uganda

Vice President inaugurates water bore hole

The village of Kititi in south-east Uganda now has clean water for the first time, thanks to funding provided to Planting for Hope Uganda by Kinver and Bewdley Rotary Clubs, supported by a matching grant from Rotary District 1060. Until now the villagers have had a long walk to fetch and carry filthy unhygienic water back to the village.

Rota Kids in Rugby

The Rotary Club of Rugby Saturday Breakfast recently celebrated the charter of the first Rota Kids Club at Eastlands Primary School  Rugby.

Following on from collecting their Young Citizen award in Birmingham,  for writing, recording, acting and filming their own DVD on Cyber Bullying the School now holds fortnightly Rota Kids meetings.

Rotarians from the club and District Governor Elect, Peter Roberts, attended the school assembly to present the children with their certificates.

Rotary success at Morton Stanley Festival

Despite the inclement weather, which kept people away on the Sunday afternoon, our stalls at Morton Stanley Festival raised over £800 for our local charity, St. Basil's. Morton Stanley  is a free community festival which attracts many thousands of visitors of all ages and backgrounds, and this year's event provided a great oppportunity to raise the profile of Rotary in the town.

Through the personal help of Amarjit Nandra of the Rotary Club of Aston, Keith McDavid has been working very closely with the Sikh Channel Aid; a not for profit TV channel here in Birmingham; which transmits to the Sikh community throughout the UK, Western Europe and Toronto, on channel 840.

Nepal Earthquake Appeal

Following the tragic earthquake that hit Nepal last weekend, Rotary International in Great Britain and Ireland has pledged its support to help victims with long term support.

Rotary’s Donation Trust has been set up for the Nepal Earthquake Appeal, which will provide support for sustainable community projects once the immediate emergency has been dealt with.

Solihull students get ‘green’ at innovative event

Over 400 secondary school students from 20 schools in and around Solihull took part in an interactive ‘green’ event which investigated local sustainable business models and cutting edge technologies.

The Guatemala Literacy Project 2015/16 Global Grant Campaign

The latest GLP Annual Report makes excellent reading & reveals the great success of the 2014/15 campaign, to which 3 of our D-1060 Clubs contributed (Kenilworth, Rugby Dunsmore & Tamworth). It will enable the substantial & worthwhile work of the Project to continue & develop further.

The new campaign has now been launched & we aim to improve on last year’s success.

Devastation caused by Cyclone PAM in Vanuatu

Cyclone PAM has caused mass devastation in the archipelago of Vanuatu. Within days Rotary Box Schemes have gone into action to help deliver shelter, water filters and humanitarian aid to the islands.

As of today 17th March 2015, only military flights are allowed in with all commercial flights on hold.

KINVER ROTARY CLUB'S SPONSORED SLIM UNDER 'WEIGH'

Eleven brave souls stood on the scales as the Kinver Rotary Club sponsored slim started with a weigh-in on January 3rd. Three ladies and eight men, ranging in weight from 10 stones 11 lbs to 16 stones 2lbs and totalling 150 stones 8 lbs between them started their six week slim to raise funds for transport to get poorer children from Rohtak in India into education. The weigh-out will be on February 14th, so the slimmers will be able to enjoy a glass or two of bubbly with their Valentine!

There have been cultural links between Warwickshire and Bo for the last four years, including teacher exchanges, and school project support from Leamington and Warwick Rotarians, led by a Leamington based charity which promotes educational and vocational links.  The link between Warwick and Bo is therefore established.
