The Guatemala Literacy Project 2015/16 Global Grant Campaign

march15_news - GLP.jpg

The latest GLP Annual Report makes excellent reading & reveals the great success of the 2014/15 campaign, to which 3 of our D-1060 Clubs contributed (Kenilworth, Rugby Dunsmore & Tamworth). It will enable the substantial & worthwhile work of the Project to continue & develop further.

The new campaign has now been launched & we aim to improve on last year’s success.

KINVER ROTARY CLUB'S SPONSORED SLIM UNDER 'WEIGH'

The scales groan as PP Ian Maddock weighs in.jpg

Eleven brave souls stood on the scales as the Kinver Rotary Club sponsored slim started with a weigh-in on January 3rd. Three ladies and eight men, ranging in weight from 10 stones 11 lbs to 16 stones 2lbs and totalling 150 stones 8 lbs between them started their six week slim to raise funds for transport to get poorer children from Rohtak in India into education. The weigh-out will be on February 14th, so the slimmers will be able to enjoy a glass or two of bubbly with their Valentine!

Ebola

I give below a brief description of Warwick Rotary Club's plans: -

There have been cultural links between Warwickshire and Bo for the last four years, including teacher exchanges, and school project support from Leamington and Warwick Rotarians, led by a Leamington based charity which promotes educational and vocational links.  The link between Warwick and Bo is therefore established.

DEC Ebola Crisis Appeal

The DEC has launched an appeal for the people affected by the Ebola Crisis

Good news from Lichfield Rotary Club Re: Ebola!

A cheque to Medecins Sans Frontieres has just been dispatched; and a further commitment to a special event to raise some more funds for MSF is being arranged. Well done fellow Rotarians at Lichfield Rotary Club!

World Polio Day: 24 October 2014

World Polio Day is quickly approaching on October 24th. This is a chance for Rotarians, clubs, and districts across the world to come together to fight polio. There are many ways you could mark the day. Dedicate your club meeting to focus on Rotary’s work to end polio that week. Community fundraisers on/around World Polio Day are great a way to raise awareness of our cause in the general public.  You could take the opportunity to remind government officials to support the global commitment to a polio free world- Rotary’s top priority. On World Polio Day, wear your End Polio Now pin and encourage your friends and family to do the same.

Team Triathlon fundraiser

I am President of Roborough Rotary Club (the sponsor of Literacy in a Box) this year and I will be doing the cycling leg of an Olympic distance Team Triathlon on 6th September. Last year's President will be swimming and next years President will be running. We are raising money for Literacy in a Box and Right to Play but the option exists to support just one of these two charities. More details are on our Virgin Money Giving events page.

Help us build on this milestone and eradicate polio worldwide

Rotary’s efforts to eradicate polio from the face of the earth received an anticipated shot of good news in March when the World Health Organization (WHO) certified its Southeast Asia region as poliofree. The 11-country region is home to more than 1.8 billion people and over 25 percent of the world’s population.
