Inner Wheel District 6
District Chairman 2013-14
Welcome to the website for Inner Wheel District 6. Our clubs organise lively and interesting programmes, and with the new changes to our membership rules we can all look forward to the future with hope and optimism. I feel it is important to encourage our members in all aspects of their Inner Wheel involvement and we also need to publicise the wonderful activities that we carry out. Our organisation is 90 years old this year and our own District will be 80 on March 13th 2014. We have much to celebrate, we are proud of our membership and welcome new members.
District 6, which covers the Heart of England, has 34 clubs in Warwickshire, West Midlands, parts of Worcestershire and Staffordshire, with approximately 800 members.
Most clubs meet once a month throughout the year, but there are also many other informal social and fund raising occasions. We value friendship and work hard for our chosen charities both in this country and overseas.
My chosen charity this year is Midlands Air Ambulance Charity which is responsible for funding and operating three air ambulances serving our local communities. It averages 3000 missions per year – nearly ten each day. It receives no Government or National Lottery funding and relies on public and business help. I hope that members of District 6 will support this very worthwhile charity.
Our District Overseas Service Charity this year is The Butterfly Tree Charity. This charity supports rural communities in Zambia which have been decimated by AIDS and HIV pandemics. It provides health and education facilities and an orphan sponsorship program. It is a young charity founded by Jane Kaye-Bailey in 2006 All funds go directly to the cause and all members are volunteers.
The 2013/2014 International Inner Wheel President, Gabriella Adami, comes from Italy, and her theme for the year is We, for women. The theme underlines all we stand for, as the essential ingredient of Inner Wheel is the friendship offered and shared.
In the 21st century women are still victims of violence and mutilation and in some countries they have no rights.
