Bwengu Projects - Working in Africa

By Stella Almond - Posted on 05 September 2014

Bwengu Projects is a small NGO run by Sue & Tony Melia.

Each year we work in north Malawi, completing various building projects of local village schools, churches and medical centers and generally supporting the community. Part of our work is in the provision of self managing food projects providing for orphans and other children.

Our 10th year - Working In Africa

We have now booked our flights to Africa, we fly out 14th Sept. This will be our shortest stay in the 10 years we have been travelling to Malawi, staying for just 1 month. Sue will carry out an evaluation of the various additional education projects that have taken place in 2014.  The effect of the introduction of solar lighting within 3 classrooms has changed the thinking of many within the villages. The best evidence of this can be shown in the letter we received from the Head Teacher of Luzi School for June school reports.

Our plan is to offer these same education projects to other secondary school communities in 2014/15.   Volunteers wishing to work in Africa, we now have the organisational structure in place if any one wishes to travel out to Malawi. There are a number of interesting projects available.

We also are looking for any spare or discarded mobile phones and lap top computers these we will take with us in September when we travel out to Malawi.
