Christmas sleigh hand out to almost 40 groups

By Mike Deathridge - Posted on 21 February 2012

More senior citizens than ever were entertained by members of the Rotary Club of Kinver at this year’s annual new year party.  Well over 150 pensioners were treated to a supper provided and servied by club members and their wives, and entertainment from Rob Pitt.  Also, for the first time, students from Edgecliff School performed exerpts from  their recent production.

The event was funded by the Rotary club’s Christmas sleigh collection, which eesulted in a record breaking £4,800 being distributed to almost 40 charities and organisations in the village together with the other communities visited by Santa -  Enville and Wollaston.

Donations ranging from £50 to £400 were made to charities for young people, the elderly and those associated with the local schools, churches and village services such as the two voluntarily run buses.

Rtn Ken Graham, Chairman of the club’s Community Services committee, comments: “As Rotarians we enjoy taking the sleigh round the district but we enjoy even more the opportunity to help groups that need funding.  We would like to do more, but, given the current economic circumstances, we are pleased  to be able to hand out almost £5,000.
