FORMER TOP FIREFIGHTER IS NEW PRESIDENT

John Brown, President of Kinver Rotary Club 2012 - 2013

John Brown, holder of the Queen’s Fire Service Medal, is the new President of the Rotary Club of Kinver.

Prior to his retirement in September 2010 after 41 years’ service with the West Midlands Fire Service,  John had been an Assistant Chief Fire Officer for seven years. As a member of the Service’s Corporate Management Team his areas of responsibility, apart from operational command of major incidents, included the ‘999’ Fire Control Centre, Emergency Vehicle Fleet, Fire Fighting and Rescue Equipment, Communications and Contingency Planning with other emergency services including Terrorism.

His first posting as a firefighter was to the Central Fire Station, Birmingham, followed by service at other locations within Birmingham and the Black Country along with a secondment to Frankfurt am Main Fire Service (Germany) and the Fire Service College, Moreton in Marsh, Gloucestershire. He was awarded the Queens Fire Service Medal (QFSM) in the Queen’s Birthday Honours of June 2010.

John was born and educated in Birmingham and now lives in Kingswinford with his grown up family and dog. His interests include travel, gardening and DIY. He is a member of the Phoenix Trust Charity Committee supporting young children with various disabilities. He is a regular blood donor, having received his gold award in 2010 following 50 donations.

Since becoming a member of the Rotary Club of Kinver in 2005 he has undertaken a number of roles including Treasurer and Chairman of Fellowship.

During his year as President he intends to build upon existing relationships and also forge new partnerships with other organisations and charitable groups within Kinver and the immediate locality.
