Another record collection of £6.700 has taken the total collected by Kinver Rotary Club’s Christmas sleigh past the £100,000 mark.

Since Rotarians first brought the sleigh to homes in Kinver, Stourton and Enville in 1985 it has been in increasing demand and now visits homes in parts of Wollaston and Wall Heath together with local schools, supermarkets and shopping centres and the Mary Stevens Hospice Santa jog.  Collection totals have increased steadily, with only a couple of years recording lower income than the previous figures.

The entire £100,000 has, after deduction of expenses, been donated to local charities.

Club President Roger Stephenson says: “The people of Kinver and the surrounding areas have again been so generous and I am delighted to express on behalf of the club sincere thanks to all who donated and played a part in making this another record year. We are now calling upon young couples who were young children when we started our collections and now have children of their own. ”

Roger also expressed his thanks to the Rotarians and helpers who had turned out in greater numbers than ever - sometimes in extremely wet conditions - to ensure all routes were completed by 9.00 p.m.
