SURPRISE DONATIONS BOOST 'CHILDREN IN NEED' QUIZ TOTAL TO £3153

By Ian Maddock - Posted on 02 December 2013

Two surprise cheque presentations more than doubled the usual total cash made at the annual Children in Need Quiz organised by the Rotary Club of Kinver.

Before BBC’s “Voice of the Balls” Alan Dedicoat began the quiz he has hosted for the club for the past 13 years, Clive Corbett, a Kinver Rotarian who is Head Teacher at Pershore High School, gave him a cheque for £1,500 raised by the students.

He was followed onto the stage by Julia Roseblade, wife of past president Clive Roseblade, who presented a cheque for almost £400  from the pupils at Goldthorne Park School in Wolverhampton where she is head teacher.

Their contributions boosted the final total for the evening to £3,153.

Once again the Edward Marsh Centre in Kinver was filled to capacity with 42 teams of four taking part in the quiz which was devised and presented by Alan Dedicoat. He said afterwards: “We have been raising more than £1,000 from this event for some years now.  To leave with over £3,000 is absolutely magnificent so I do thank the staff and pupils at the two school and all the regular quizzers who have come along year after year.”

Rtn Nick Geoghegan, President of Kinver Rotary Club, praised the input of Alan Dedicoat and thanked him for once again visiting Kinver at his own expense to stage “Our best-ever Children in Need Quiz.”
