You are hereGroups / Kinver / A WEE DRAM FOR CHARITY

By Ian Maddock - Posted on 26 November 2014

In recent years Rotarian Bob Hemming has organised a whisky tasting for Kinver Rotary Club, and the latest such occasion was greatly enjoyed by some very happy Rotarians and friends, twenty-six in all. The tasting was held at Stourbridge Old Edwardians' Club and led by the chairman of the Wet We Whistle With Whisky Society, Andy Purslow.

Andy took us through a selection of Scotch whiskies from each of the Scottish distillery areas with a chance to savour and discuss each one. Excellent snacks were put on by the Old Edwardians' Club steward to help the whisky down.

There was also a raffle for a bottle of 10 year old Macallan and a 15 year old Glenfarclas. Past President Clive Roseblade generously shared the bottle he won, but the winner of the other bottle, who failed to share his, must remain nameless, though he is a much more recent Past President than Clive.

The evening was a great success socially, educationally (we learned about different whiskies) and financially. with a magnificent £375 being raised for youth charities. Thus we were able to tell our wives - some of whom provided transport - that it was an educational evening for charitable purposes!

Thanks to Bob and to Andy
