The 25th annual Public Speaking Award took place two weeks later than intended, due to the recent snow. Sponsored by Lichfield St Chad and chaired by Michael Fabricant MP the evening was centred on a debate “that this House believes the British Monarchy should be abolished”. All five teams from local schools put forward very strong arguments, two teams for and three against. While the outcome was not one for a parliamentary vote (no members of the Royal family were harmed!) the standard of debate was high. Ultimately the panel of judges declared the team from King Edward VI School to be the winners of the trophy, comprising Jay Kara, Jessica Sohl and Cian McDonagh. Jessica also won the trophy for the best individual speech. A most enjoyable evening for all concerned - let’s hope the weather is kinder next year!
