'Big Band Christmas' attracts a full house

Our 'Big Band Christmas' concert, featuring the award-winning Midland Youth Jazz Orchestra (MYJO) attracted a sell-out audience at Trinity High School, and helped our club raise over £2,800.

Although MYJO have performed in Redditch before, this was the first time the Rotary Club of Redditch had brought them to town to perform at Christmas. Featuring a number of big band standards, as well as seasonal favourites, the evening certainly wasn't just for big band afficianodos. The first-rate 20-piece orchestra was also completed by the vocal talents of Sam Craig and Katy Gaskin, and a surprise appearance from MYJO's 'Barber's Shop Quartet'.

Profits from the evening have been divided between MYJO (for their work in music education) and local homeless charity St Basils.

The event would not have been possible without the support of Trinity High School, who provided an excellent venue, The Music Shop, Redditch, who helped to sell tickets, Where Next? who provided planters, and Asda, who donated mince pies! Thanks also to Tony Banks, who took many photo's of the event (some of which are featured on this website), and to young Charlie Powel, who did a tremendous job with the stage lighting.

We hope to reprise this event in December 2016, so watch this space!
