In December, the Rotary Club of Redditch supported twenty one children for a visit to the Pantomime, Snow White, at the Palace Theatre.

The Club has been working with Batchley Support Group for the last two years and when it was mentioned that some children had never been to a theatre, Rotary took on the challenge.  A visit to the Pantomime was duly arranged, thanks mainly to the very hard work of Rotarian John Holloway.

The group of excited children arrived on time, all keen to find their seats.  Just a brief pause for the photographer and they were on the way in. The theatre staff, used to enthusiastic children, smiled as they helped settle the group and soon all was well and the performance was due to begin.

There were the usual cries of “Oh no it isn’t” and “Oh, yes it is” not to mention the odd “It’s behind you”.  Snow White was greeted with applause and the Wicked Queen enthusiastically boo-ed.  To support Snow White were the Seven Dwarfs and then the “Handsome Prince” appeared.  There were smiles and a few tears before the traditional happy ending. The costumes, choreography and scenery were excellent and helped bring the fairy tale to life.

At the end of the performance there was applause for all of the cast members, even the Wicked Queen, and then the children set off for home, taking happy memories and a little of the magic with them.

Rotary wishes to thank the cast and all of the Palace Theatre staff for their part in making this an enjoyable and memorable day for the children.
