Rotary First at Astwood Bank Carnival

For the first time, the Rotary Club of Redditch took a pitch at Astwood Bank Carnival on Saturday, 9th July, to raise awarenes of Rotary, and generate some funds for its local charity, Batchley Support Group. Arriving early to secure a prime position amongst a number of other community groups, our gazebo was up in no time, with banners and posters in place and our ever-popular 'tests of skill and strength' ready for action.

Once we had seen off the carnival procession on it's tour of the village, Rotarians and Inner-Wheelers had time for a quick break before an influx of visitors descended. Inner Wheel did brisk business with donated home-made cakes, and the games attracted a steady stream of willing participants - knocking 6" nails into a beam of wood, and attempting to 'ring the bell' with a large mallet. As the crowds died down & the cakes had all been sold, we packed up in double-quick time, after an exhausting but worthwhile day. At the time of writing, we await details of the funds raised, but all agreed that we should repeat the event in 2017.
