India polio vaccination programme
Rotarians Bob and Cath Armstrong had the privilege of joining one of the 1 million vaccination teams operating in India on the National Polio Immunisation Day: 29th January 2017. We accompanied a local health worker in one of the poorest areas outside Delhi. Two drops on the tongue of children under 5 years old. In they came and out they went: protected from the crippling and life threatening condition of polio.
And where do the crocuses in Shipston come in? After immunisation every child has its little finger on its left hand marked with a purple dye to avoid being vaccinated twice! So when you look at the Shipston purple crocuses remember the countless lives which have been saved by the Rotary `End Polio Now` campaign.
