Rotary District Chief visits Solihull Club Diana Holl-Allen, newly elected President of Solihull Rotary Club, had the opportunity this week to welcome District (1060) Governor, Rtn Peter Roberts to Solihull.

Rtns Sheila and Ian Courts again hosted two students under the Rotary Youth Leadership Award programme. This time the students were Justine, from France, on the left, and Sofie, from the Czech Republic. They spend a week with the hosts, a week at Moreton Morrell College, learning skills such as orienteering, team building, even self defence, then spend another week with the hosts

Solihull Club supporting Shipston on Stour charity walk


Solihull Rotary Club supporting Shipston on Stour Club with their 7 miles charity walk in the beautiful countryside at Ilmington. The views on the walk were great, as were the burgers at the start/finish and the cakes en route. Weather was beautiful; all the rain had moved on!

Phil Priest and John Brown from the Satellite Group joined a Solihull Club meeting to tell members all about how they were operating. They explained the philosophy and methods adopted, emphasising the importance of thinking big – we are all members of Rotary and a view was expressed that  we shouldn’t be thinking in terms of individual clubs in  many instances.

The Azad Choudhury Academy Fundraising Dinner is becoming a bit of an institution each year. Members of both Solihull and Birmingham Rotary clubs, with their guests, enjoy a wonderful meal and hear an update on the inspiring work that is being doen at the Academy

District Governor John visits Solihull Club

John Crawford, the new District Governor was the latest visitor to the Solihull club meeting. He inducted our 2 new members, Andy Johnson and Clive Jones John spoke about about his international project – Sand Dams – which provides clean water in many African countries. The particular one that John is involved with is located in Kenya.

Solihull Club again hosts RYLA students from Poland and Czech Republic

The RYLA programme is one of the most important projects that Rotary organises for young people, both from the UK and overseas. Rotarians Ian & Sheila Courts, from the Solihull Club have hosted overseas students on a large number of occasions and their latest visitors were Jakub from near Prague, in the Czech Republic, and Matti from Warsaw. The students spend three weeks in the area: the first one with hosts and they do visits to Rotary clubs, look at the local area and cultural and historic attractions.

Solihull Rotary Club - sports for the less able bodied at Langley School


Each year, Solihull Rotary Club has organised a range of sporting activities for the less able bodied at Langley School.  Competitors take part in many different games: curling, skittles, pool, bowls and many table games. All of these get very competitive at times and judges have to be very firm!! Catering is done by our Inner Wheel Club and they sell some lovely cakes and buns! The games are usually opened by the Mayor of Solihull.

Rotary Club of Solihull - the new "presidential team" takes over!


Rotarian Monika Badham took over the reins as President  of Solihull Rotary Club from Rtn David Bell, with Rtn Malcom Overend becoming 1st Vice President, and Rtn Barry Allaway, from the satellite group, stepping in as 2nd Vice- President. The Mayor of Solihull, Cllr Kate Wild - also a Solihull Rotarian- was in attendance at the evening dinner which took place at the Stonebridge Golf Club.
