Lapping the World, with just a bike, and a rowing boat!

Cycling, and rowing, the world
Sam Greatrex

Solihull Rotarians heard an inspiring story and one which made an impression on everyone present. Delivered in a very modest fashion, Sam Greatrex told the story of how, after being diagnosed with Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma at the age of 10, he formed a bond with, and was inspired by the Macmillan Nurse assigned to him. In recent years, he has undertaken fundraising events for Macmillan and now works for them in London. His latest project is the most extraordinary of all. He is attempting to  “Lap The World” using only a bicycle and a rowing boat. Successfully completing this task will see him go through 25 countries and row 14,000 miles across the South Atlantic and South Pacific in 580 days, breaking 9 records in the process. He is funding the cost himself, having been saving for over 6 years. He aims to raise £240, 000 for Macmillan. <photos by Steve Evans, Seven Star Photography>
