Cllr Ken Meeson talking about U K Central

Solihull Rotary Club heard at first hand from the Leader of Solihull Council, Cllr Ken Meeson, about the successes of Solihull in recent years. Despite being one of the most badly funded Councils in the country, it has kept Council Tax at one of the lowest rates, has been a driving force of the West Midlands economy, attracting inward investment at levels not seen since before the recession; schools are some of the best in the country, the Borough has excellent shopping and leisure facilities, ten Green Flag Parks and Solihull has recently been described as the best place to live and do business.

He made reference to the recent surveys where Solihull has been named as a top town for business and enterprise. Specific mention was made about the influx of new businesses and the expansion of existing businesses in high technology and top quality manufacturing.

Ken also spoke about the work undertaken and still ongoing in regenerating the north of the borough, as well as UK Central, a project for investment on the site of the proposed new HS2 Interchange Station, as well as capitalising on the existing strong economic assets of Solihull, such as its business parks, the NEC and Airport.
