Andy Cole from LendLease, the Manager of Touchwood in Solihull, came to Solihull Rotary Club to talk about the great success of the shopping centre and its expansion plans.

Touchwood is an award winning, 650,000 square foot shopping destination which opened its doors in September 2001. It is seamlessly woven into Solihull’s existing town centre and has become a blueprint for in-town development thanks to innovative design, easy access to the M42 and 1,700 car parking spaces.  With over 90 shop units, including a John Lewis and an Apple Store, it has fast become a regional shopping centre, supporting 2000 jobs.  So why does it need to extend? Andy explained that with the redevelopment of the Bull Ring Centre in Birmingham, it was necessary to ensure that Touchwood's offer was kept ahead of the pack, with more for the 18-25 yr olds, and an improved restaurant selection, including during the evening. The new scheme was planned to go to the planning application stage in the summer. The new extension would take the shopping centre up to the St Alphege Church and Church Hill and better integrate that part of the town in the town centre.
