Southam 2000

The Rotary Club of Southam 2000 is one of two clubs in the small Warwickshire town of Southam. Southam 2000 meet every Thursday evening. Rotarians visiting the area and anyone else wanting to find out about Rotary will be welcome at our meetings.

Southam 2000 is a lively club of women and men with a busy program of meetings and activities. During this Rotary year we will be continuing our varied programme of projects working directly with the young and old in our local area, partnering Rotary clubs in Asia and Africa on international projects and supporting local and international charities.

We support a local Interact Club for 16 to 18 year olds, based in Southam College and our local Rotaract Club of Leamington and Warwick. Southam 2000 will be focussing in this year on attracting new members, so if you would like to know more about Rotary and Southam 2000 please contact us via the web form here. You will be very welcome.

Pictures Show Olympic Spirit

The shadow of a cyclist depicts the Olympic spirit.

Daniel Spence led the field when he won the Rotary Young Photographer of the year competition in Southam. This is the first stage of a National competition organised by Rotary International in Great Britain and Ireland.

Young Chef Winners

Emily and Chloe

Twenty-three young people from Southam College took part in the first round of the Rotary Young Chef competition.  Students were asked to cook and present a two course meal costing less than £10.  The presentation had to be timed to perfection as the judges gathered.  These included Mike Gaffney (Rotarian and Mayor of Southam), Mr Eadon (representing the College) and others from the Rotary clubs involved.

A rather wet Southam Carnival

April and May have been busy as we approach the year end.

April saw Southam 2000 inducting our second new member of the year, Christine Hendry, proposed by Nigel Rock. We are very pleased to welcome Christine who entertained us a few weeks later with her job talk about her work at HeliAir.

Early May brought AGM around with Phillip Revill elected to be Junior Vice president for the coming year. Congratulations Phil! Much of this edition is taken up with the reports from oficers which were summarised during the meeting as a reminder of all we have achieved in the past year.

The Club has also been active with the local cluster membership campaign, supporting local Clubs by attending several events with the membership display.

Late May saw a tremendous effort by the whole Club to organise our Fun Day, Craft Fair and Classic Vehicle Display at Bourton Hall which was a great success, despite the weather not being ideal.

Finally, 30th May saw Southam 2000 assisting with the Southam Carnival. Not quite Rain Stopped Play, but not one of the better years!

A Marathon for Thanks for Life

Iain Wilson, Rotary Club of Southam 2000 completed the Edinburgh Marathon on Sunday May 22nd, in support of Thanks for Life. Having run the London Marathon for the last two years for British Lung Foundation, he’s decided to put this “talent” to use raising money for the Polio Campaign (and hopefully raising the profile of Rotary in general).
